Katie Holmes’s Graphic Tee Is an Homage to Rock ‘n’ Roll History

Yesterday in New York, Katie Holmes proved she’s still perfected effortless, casual-cool city girl style (it’s her signature, after all). She did some shopping in a dressed-down ensemble that still had a super modern vibe to it, thanks to her graphic T-shirt, wide-leg trousers, and sleek leather sandals. Holmes also sported wired headphones like a true It girl. But it’s her slogan tee, in particular, that caught our attention: It pays homage to an important part of rock and roll history. Someone knows a thing or two about music!

Holmes sported a vintage-looking Electric Lady Studios tee, the famous New York recording studio launched by Jimi Hendrix in 1970. Since opening, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Patti Smith, and Led Zeppelin have all come through and laid down some tracks there, along with modern stars like Kanye West, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift. Holmes is clearly a rocker chick, leaving us wondering what album she’s listening to through those earbuds. Though her styling approach to the tee—which is available on the studio’s official merch website for $45—is decidedly less rocker-grungy, more polished. It simply wouldn’t be a Katie Holmes outfit if it wasn’t.
